I'll Make The First Call But It Might Be After 10....Breakfast For Dinner!!! French Toast, Ham Steaks & Grits

Challah Bread French Toast & Blueberries

When was the last time you met someone that you really liked and wanted to get to know better? Chances are you exchanged numbers or emails and then comes the waiting game. As a guy one of the things that  I worry about in such situations is do I call or should I wait for her to call first so that we know that she is just as interested in me . Women, I imagine might think something like; "He's the guy so he can call me 1st or we just won't talk!" We both may even be thinking; "I don't want to seem too aggressive or eager!" or the ever present and classic;"Is it too late / early to call now?

Tradition I supposed would have a chivalrous man call first at the appropriate time but what happens if the man somehow lost the number or his phone and simply can't call? Don't get me wrong I'm certainly not suggesting that the female take the lead in the courtship process. I'm simply suggesting that there are times when those precautions are best thrown in the wind to allow for what could be a welcomed surprise. So guys, don't worry about seeming pressed, ladies don't worry about the hour of the day, trust me he has been waiting for your call since you met him. There has been a time or two in the past when tradition is better served turned around. Tradition has a place most of the time but on some occasions non traditional just seems like the better option.

On the menu today: Breakfast for Dinner - Challah Bread French Toast, Country Ham & Grits.

French Toast
Country Ham

For the French Toast we will need the following:

  • Challah Bread (1-2 Thick Slices pp)
  • Eggs (3 ea)
  • Heavy Cream (.25 cups)
  • Vanilla (1 tsp)
  • Sugar (2 Tbs)
  • Cinnamon (1 tsp)
  • Vegetable Oil (2 Tbs)
  • Maple Syrup (tt)
  • Fresh Blueberries

First slice the bread into 1.5 inch thick slices. Combine the eggs, heavy cream, vanilla, and sugar by whisking together. Dip the bread, allow both sides to coat with egg mixture and place in a heated skillet with vegetable oil allowing to brown before flipping. Once flipped allow to cook for another 2-3 minutes or until done. Place the toast in a preheated oven until serving time.

For the Ham we will need the following:

  • Ham Steak (1 feeds 3-4)

Simply place the ham in a heated skillet with butter or vegetable oil and allow to brown before flipping. The ham is already cooked, so all you are really trying to do is add texture and color so this process should take less than 5 minutes.

Ricotta Grits

For the Ricotta Grits we need the following

  • Instant Grits (see label)
  • Ricotta Cheese (1.5 cups)
  • Butter (1 tsp)
  • Salt & Pepper (t t)

For the grits simply follow the directions on the box and once done fold the cheese and butter in to incorporate. Add salt and pepper to taste.
French Toast, Ham, Grits & Grilled Watermelon.
